Canada PR ki tayyari aaj se shuru karo — ITA milne ke baad waqt bahut kam hota hai. Documents ready hain toh safar asaan hai.

Canada PR — Complete Documents Checklist Before You Apply
Introduction:

Receiving an Invitation to Apply for Canadian Permanent Residency through the Express Entry system is one of the most exciting moments in any Pakistani professional's immigration journey. But that excitement must quickly translate into focused, disciplined, and time-sensitive action. Once an ITA is issued Pakistani applicants have exactly 60 days to submit their complete PR application through the IRCC portal — and this 60-day window leaves very little room for document scrambling, last-minute attestations, or discovering that a critical piece of evidence is missing or improperly prepared. The professionals who sail smoothly through the ITA-to-PR-application window are invariably those who began preparing their documents long before the ITA arrived. This guide gives Pakistani applicants the complete Canada PR documents checklist for 2026 — covering every required document, what each one must contain, how to obtain it, and what common mistakes to avoid.

Why Document Preparation Must Begin Before the ITA:

The 60-day post-ITA window is tight for Pakistani applicants for several reasons specific to the Pakistani context. Some documents — particularly the Educational Credential Assessment and the police clearance certificate — take weeks to obtain and must be current and properly prepared. The medical examination must be conducted by an IRCC-approved panel physician and the results are uploaded directly by the physician to IRCC's system. Work experience letters must meet very specific IRCC formatting requirements and obtaining properly formatted letters from previous employers — particularly from Pakistani companies that may not be familiar with Canadian immigration requirements — can take time. Pakistani applicants who begin assembling every document on this checklist well before their expected ITA arrival will find the post-ITA period far less stressful and far more efficient.

Who Needs This Checklist?

This checklist is for Pakistani nationals who have active Express Entry profiles and are expecting an ITA in upcoming draws, Pakistani applicants who have recently received an ITA and have 60 days to submit their complete PR application, and Pakistani professionals who are in the early stages of building their Express Entry profile and want to understand exactly what documents will eventually be needed so they can prepare in advance.

Document 1: Valid Passport — All Passports Ever Held

The passport requirement for Canada PR is broader than most Pakistani applicants expect. IRCC requires applicants to submit not just their current valid passport but all passports they have held — past and present. This means Pakistani applicants who have renewed their passport one or more times must locate and submit copies of every previous Pakistani passport, particularly any that contain visa stamps or travel history records. If an old passport has been lost, the applicant must disclose this in their application and provide a statutory declaration explaining the circumstances.

Your current passport must have sufficient validity — ideally at least 12 months of remaining validity at the time of PR application submission, as IRCC needs the passport to remain valid through the duration of the PR application processing period of approximately 6 months. Pakistani applicants whose passports are expiring should renew at passport.gov.pk before submitting their PR application.

Document 2: Educational Credential Assessment

The Educational Credential Assessment, known as the ECA, is an official assessment of Pakistani educational qualifications conducted by a designated Canadian authority that determines the Canadian educational equivalent of a Pakistani degree or diploma. For Express Entry purposes a positive ECA is mandatory for claiming educational CRS points for qualifications obtained outside Canada.

For Pakistani applicants the most commonly used ECA authority is World Education Services, known as WES, at wes.org, though other IRCC-designated authorities including ICAS, IQAS, and others are also accepted. The WES ECA process requires Pakistani applicants to submit their degree certificate and official transcripts from their Pakistani university directly to WES — the university typically sends these documents directly to WES rather than through the applicant. The WES ECA process typically takes 7 to 15 business days for standard processing and 2 to 5 business days for premium service. The ECA fee for WES is approximately CAD 250, approximately PKR 50,000, for a standard evaluation. The ECA result, once received, is valid for 5 years and the reference number is entered into the Express Entry profile.

Document 3: IELTS or CELPIP — Valid Language Test Scores

Official English language test results are a mandatory component of every Canada PR application through Express Entry. Pakistani applicants may use either IELTS General Training or IELTS Academic, or the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program, known as CELPIP. The specific Canadian Language Benchmark levels required vary by Express Entry stream — the Federal Skilled Worker Program requires CLB 7 in all four bands as a minimum eligibility threshold, while higher scores generate more CRS points.

Pakistani applicants must ensure their language test results are still within the 2-year validity window at the time of submitting their PR application, not just at the time of ITA. An IELTS result obtained more than 2 years before the PR application submission date is no longer valid and a new test must be taken. Pakistani applicants approaching the 2-year mark on their existing IELTS results should consider retesting well before their anticipated ITA window to ensure their scores remain valid through the application submission date.

Document 4: Work Experience Letters — Detailed and IRCC-Compliant

Work experience letters are among the most commonly improperly prepared documents in Pakistani Canada PR applications, and incorrectly formatted experience letters are a frequent reason for IRCC requesting additional information or ultimately not accepting claimed work experience. IRCC has very specific requirements for what a qualifying work experience letter must contain, and a standard Pakistani employer's reference letter typically does not meet these requirements without specific guidance.

Each work experience letter submitted must be on official company letterhead, signed by an authorized company representative, and must include the applicant's full name, job title and NOC code for the position, start date and end date of employment, number of hours worked per week, main duties and responsibilities performed in sufficient detail to confirm they match the NOC description, and annual or monthly salary. For Pakistani applicants with employment from multiple previous employers, a separate properly formatted letter is required for each position being claimed as qualifying work experience. Self-employed Pakistani applicants must provide alternative documentation including business registration, tax returns, and client references that collectively establish the nature and duration of self-employment.

Document 5: Police Clearance Certificate — All Countries of Residence

Police clearance certificates, also known as character certificates, must be obtained from every country in which the Pakistani applicant has lived for 6 months or more since the age of 18. For most Pakistani applicants this includes Pakistan as the primary requirement, but also any Gulf country, the UK, or any other country where they have lived and worked for 6 or more months.

The Pakistan police clearance certificate for Canada PR purposes is obtained through NADRA at nadra.gov.pk and must be recent — typically issued within the last 3 to 6 months before application submission. It must also go through MOFA attestation and in most cases should be authenticated for Canadian immigration purposes. For police clearance from Gulf countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Qatar, the relevant country's police or interior ministry issues the certificate. Pakistani applicants who lived in the UK must obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service certificate or equivalent. IRCC will flag any missing police clearance from a country where the applicant lived for 6 months or more — so Pakistani applicants must carefully account for all countries of residence and obtain the necessary certificate from each.

Document 6: Medical Examination — IRCC Panel Physician Only

The Canadian PR medical examination must be conducted by a physician specifically designated and approved by IRCC — known as a panel physician. The complete and updated list of IRCC panel physicians in Pakistan is available on the IRCC website and includes approved physicians in major Pakistani cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and others. No other physician or medical facility is accepted — even if the facility is an internationally recognized hospital, if it is not on the IRCC panel physician list its results are not accepted.

The medical examination for Canada PR covers a general physical assessment, blood tests, chest X-ray, and a review of vaccination history. After conducting the examination the panel physician uploads the results directly to IRCC's secure medical system — the applicant does not receive a paper certificate to submit. The applicant enters their unique medical examination identification number in their IRCC application to link the physician's uploaded results to their file. The medical examination fee varies by physician but is typically between PKR 15,000 and PKR 30,000 in Pakistan. Medical examination results are valid for 12 months from the date of examination — Pakistani applicants who complete their medical examination too early risk the results expiring before the PR application is finalized.

Document 7: Proof of Funds — Settlement Funds

Pakistani PR applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources to support themselves and their family members after arrival in Canada. The required settlement funds are based on IRCC's Low Income Cut-Off table and are updated annually. For 2026 the minimum settlement funds required are CAD 13,757 for a single applicant, CAD 17,127 for a family of two, CAD 21,055 for a family of three, and the amounts increase for each additional family member.

These settlement funds must be in the form of liquid, accessible financial assets — typically demonstrated through official bank statements covering the most recent 6 months. The statement must be from a recognized financial institution, show the applicant's name as the account holder, and demonstrate that the required funds have been held consistently. Pakistani applicants who are currently working in Canada and hold a valid Canadian work permit that authorizes employment are exempt from the settlement funds requirement as Canadian work experience demonstrates financial self-sufficiency. For Pakistani applicants in Pakistan submitting their PR application from abroad, the full settlement funds must be demonstrated.

Document 8: Digital Photographs — IRCC Specifications

Canada PR applications require digital photographs meeting IRCC's specific technical specifications rather than physical passport photographs. The digital photo must show the applicant from head to shoulders against a plain white or light coloured background, be taken within the last 6 months, have a file size of less than 4 MB, and meet specific pixel dimension requirements specified on the IRCC document checklist. Pakistani applicants should have their digital photographs taken at a professional photography studio that is familiar with Canadian immigration photo specifications and can provide the correctly formatted digital file directly.

Additional Documents That May Be Required:

Beyond the 8 core documents, some Pakistani applicants may need to provide additional materials depending on their specific circumstances. Pakistani applicants who are married must include their marriage certificate with an official translation if not in English. Pakistani applicants with children must include birth certificates for each child. Pakistani applicants who have previously been refused a visa to any country must disclose this and provide documentation. Pakistani applicants who have spent time in Canada on a temporary work permit or study permit should include their previous Canadian immigration documents as supporting evidence of their Canadian ties.

The 60-Day ITA Timeline — How to Manage It:

Pakistani applicants should plan their document preparation in the following stages to make the most of the 60-day post-ITA window. In the first week after receiving an ITA, immediately book the medical examination with an IRCC panel physician and request updated work experience letters from all current and previous employers. In the second week, submit the police clearance certificate applications to NADRA and any other relevant country. In weeks three and four, compile all other documents including language test scores, ECA result, bank statements, and photographs. In weeks five and six, complete the online application form in the IRCC portal, carefully matching every detail to the submitted documents. Submit the complete application before day 55 to allow at least 5 days buffer before the 60-day deadline.

Proof of Funds Summary:

The 2026 Canada PR settlement funds requirements are CAD 13,757 for a single applicant, approximately PKR 2,750,000. CAD 17,127 for 2 family members, approximately PKR 3,425,000. CAD 21,055 for 3 family members, approximately PKR 4,211,000. CAD 25,536 for 4 family members, approximately PKR 5,107,000. Each additional family member beyond 4 requires approximately CAD 3,700 in additional funds.

Processing Time:

After the complete PR application is submitted following an ITA, IRCC's standard processing target is 6 months for straightforward Express Entry applications. Applications that require additional document requests, security clearances, or medical follow-ups may take longer. Pakistani applicants should monitor their IRCC account regularly for any correspondence or document requests from IRCC during the processing period and respond within the specified timeframe to avoid delays.

Important Tips:

Begin collecting your documents at least 3 to 6 months before your expected ITA to avoid the frantic last-minute scramble that the 60-day window creates. Double-check every work experience letter against IRCC's exact formatting requirements before submitting — improperly formatted letters are the most common reason for IRCC queries on Pakistani applications. Never submit a document that does not accurately reflect your actual situation — misrepresentation in a Canadian PR application is a serious finding with long-term immigration consequences. Keep digital copies of every document submitted stored securely in cloud storage in case IRCC requests any document to be resubmitted.

Conclusion:

Canada PR is achievable for Pakistani professionals who prepare thoroughly, honestly, and well in advance of their ITA. The 8 documents on this checklist — all passports, ECA, language scores, work experience letters, police clearances, medical examination, proof of funds, and digital photographs — are all obtainable with the right preparation timeline and the right understanding of what each one requires. Start building your document file today, ensure your language scores remain valid, obtain your ECA through WES, and keep your work experience letters formatted correctly. When your ITA arrives, your 60 days should feel like enough time rather than a race — because your documents will already be ready.
